Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can we get a grant for our church's Sunday school program?
A: We do not make grants to support religious or political oriented programs. We will, however, consider non-religious projects from organizations affiliated with churches or religious institutions.

Q: Are there geographical restrictions on the grant awards?
A: We will consider grant applications from qualified organizations located anywhere within the United States. We may give special consideration to applications from the Connecticut and Western Massachusetts area.

Q: Can I apply for a monetary grant and request a product donation on the same application?
A: No, the LEGO Children's Fund only considers grants for financial support of qualifying projects. Product donation requests may be emailed to donations@america.lego.com.

Q: How much detail must I include about the project for which I am requesting funds?
A: In the "Project Description" section, please include the outline of the project only (do not restate your organization profile and goals in this section); the start date, end date and any significant milestone dates for the project; the number and demographics of the children to be served; a detailed project budget showing how and when the grant would be used; how you intend to measure and report the success of the project.

Q: I receive an error message when I try to access the LCF on-line eligibility/application form or I cannot access the form.
A: 1.You may have an older version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader. Please download a newer version (8.1.1) and try again. To find the version number open Acrobat Reader, click on "Help", click on the sub-menu item "About Acrobat Reader"
2. Your system may be set to disallow "pop-ups". Change the settings to temporarily allow pop-ups.
3. There appears to be a problem when using Firefox. For the time being you will need to use a different web browser to fill out and submit the forms.

Q: Can I fax my application?
A: No.

Q: What is the size of your average grant?
A: The current average grant approved is approximately $3,000.00. 

Q: How often can I apply for funding?
A: You may submit unique grant requests as often as you like for each approval cycle, however an organization may only receive one grant award per calendar year from LCF.

Q: What are the grant application deadlines?
A: Grant applications must be post-marked by the first business day of February, May, August , or November  of each year. 

Q: How will I know if my organization will be receiving a grant award?
A: We will notify both successful and non-successful grant applicants by letter as soon as a determination is made.

Q: Must my organization be a non-profit to qualify for a grant award?
A; Yes, you must submit with your application, a copy of the letter from the Internal Revenue Service notifying you of your 501(c) 3 status.

 Q: I have called the LEGO Children's Fund telephone line but only receive a recording. How can I speak to someone live?
A: The fund has limited resources and must rely on the internet as much as possible. Kindly send your questions via email to legochildrensfund@lego.com
